FINDING CAREER SATISFACTION IN THE LAW: Using Creative Problem Solving and Planning

Workshop Description 
Attorneys may face many different challenges to a satisfying career, such as:  balancing work and life, advancing in the law firm, business development, billing clients, making billable hours goals, getting paid what you are worth, finding fulfillment from your work, etc.  This highly interactive seminar will teach participants a creative problem solving process for career challenges.  It will also use discussion, role playing and exercises to help you apply what you are learning to your actual challenges.  You’ll leave both with a creative process to career development and progress toward addressing your own challenges.

Workshop Faculty: Shaun Jamison, J.D., Ph.D., Leonard Lang, Ph.D.

Shaun Jamison, J.D, Ph.D. is a law professor and a business & life coach.  He graduated with Distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law as well as earning his Ph.D. in Education focusing on adult and transformative education.  Dr. Jamison was a sole practitioner attorney in the areas of family, criminal, real estate, and small business law.  He is also a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the General Rules of Practice.  No stranger to alternative careers for lawyers, he also spent several years at Thomson West, most recently serving as a manager of telephone account management and telephone training where he assisted employees with performance and career goals.  A long time Toastmaster, Dr. Jamison has presented on various topics including starting and building your own law practice, goal setting, customer service, and journaling.

Leonard Lang, Ph.D.Leonard Lang, Ph.D., uses training, facilitation, and rapid coaching to help groups and individuals get unstuck, clarify goals, and think more powerfully for better solutions and increased innovation. Drawing on activities ranging from mindmapping® to swing dancing, he has been a frequent keynoter and presenter at international and regional conferences, including for the International Association of Facilitators and four times for the Minnesota Career Development Association. Dr. Lang has developed the D.R.E.A.M. & Implement Process™ for problem solving and has led trainings for diverse audiences including engineers at Guidant Corporation, physicians at United Hospital, and employment counselors at the Minneapolis Workforce Center. He is the author of Guide to Lifework: Working with Integrity and Heart and for five years broadcast his book reviews on Minnesota Public Radio.
